What are some good styles for LONG & THICK hair?

my hair is long, like past my breasts, and i want it longer, so no cutting. but its also extreamly thick. like if i put it in a pony tail, the diameter of it is about an inch and a half. and its pretty straight. not pin straight, but not too wavy

what are some good styles to try? i've done the layering thing, but it just looked choppy and feathery (ick) and i've tried a perm (poodle!)

any ideas?

Well I was going to say layering, but you dont like it :)! My hair is like that too, and I just have a simple layering technique so that I can wear it straight or curly. Normally I wear it back. One thing I always have them do is thin it out a lil bit. Nothin much but there are these amazing scissors that just kind of thin it out and it helps. I hated the headaches before! Hope it helps... long hair rocks!

Try what I do - comb them well, then put some styling gel in it, munch them in a messy bun and fix with a hair band. the bun must be right above your head to be sure there will be volume near the roots and that it won' t disturb you while you sleep. In the morning it looks like a bed head or so.

Ask your hairstylist to cut long layers in your hair, so you're not actually cutting off the length (that way you can still pull it back in a ponytail). And yes, get a hair magazine and select something from it that you like. I've even picked out two hair styles and had my stylist do something in between the two. Also, you can use gels, mousses, and other type hair products to change the way your hair looks. Molding mud and gels can change the look of your hair temporarily.

my hair is the same. i had the same problem. what i do is put it in half ponytails, sometimes i give it a light curl, or i leave it down. or, if you like clips, you should put it in a small flip bun, and put a clip over it, so it just look like it's holding it, but it's really not. try a few different things out. : ) if you ever do want to get it cut short, you should go to a professional and ask for layers or something and make it NOT choppy, (if they mess up, ask for a refund,lol.)
